Flashbacks + Memories

I just saw a video on Tik Tok of a woman eating food from Sonic and it took me back to the one and only time I’ve had Sonic in my life, and that was with my abuser.

He had been over at my apartment in the middle of the day, as usual. When it came time for lunch, we decided to try Sonic since I’d never had it before. I just remember going together to the Sonic drive-in and going through that whole process to order our food and bring it home. I just remember it so vividly.

When we got back to my apartment, he really wanted to watch the movie The Guardian. If you haven’t seen that movie before, it stars Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Costner as they do rescue missions in the Coast Guard. My abuser recited that movie from start to finish, clearly having seen it many times before, but only he recited it from a personal narrative perspective. My abuser had told stories constantly of his time serving in the military. He said he has originally started out serving in the army but was shot in the foot during combat (he showed me the “scar” as he told me this story again while we watched The Guardian) so he had to be transferred to the Coast Guard. There, as he served in the Coast Guard, he performed rescue missions to jump into the ocean from helicopters to save people in the ocean below. So as we watched the movie, the whole time he would say “that’s what I did” or go off on some story about his time in the Coast Guard. He even told me his dad had been in the military and would give my abuser a hard time for being a “puddle jumper” and serving in the Coast Guard.

Was any of that true? Did he serve in the military? When I had told all of this to the police, they said there’s no way for them to prove he served time in the military. But with my own suspicions, I’d say there’s no chance he was in the military (especially considering he’s done time behind bars before).

Anyway, that was just a memory that came jumping back out to me.

I haven’t had Sonic since.
