I’m sitting here writing this as I’m halfway through my 3 hour glucose test, feeling like I might pass out, so if this post stops halfway through you’ll know why.
I took the 26 week glucose test last weekend. They had to poke my arm in 2 places for all the blood work. I mention that as it comes into play for today.
Then, on Thursday, the nurse called and said I failed the glucose test, just barely by 3 points. So I had to come in for the 3 hour glucose test. Amazing.
And for the record, this test is an indicator for gestational diabetes.
So I ate a high-protein meal for dinner last night per the nurse’s recommendation. And I called the lab work facility to make sure they take walk-ins and that I could be here when they opened. I had to fast for this and on top of all other pregnancy things, I feel sick if I don’t eat.
Anyway, we got here when they opened at 7am and they did the first blood draw at 7:30. The first of four blood draws. That’s what I’m probably most apprehensive about, is them poking me 4 times over 3 hours. Because my arms are still sore from being poked twice last weekend. Ugh.
And, with all the poking, it brings me back to my miscarriage last year when I had to go back every week for a month for blood draws. And by the end of those 4 weeks, they had to use the same entry point (that was still very sore) because I was being poked so much. And here we are, poke poke poke poke poke again.
I’ll see what they say about this test but the idea of gestational diabetes is scary.
Pregnancy is not easy for me and my body.
